MBBS Admission Process in India

The finest qualification is a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Many of the aspirants dream of pursuing an MBBS. MBBS Admission Process  

For those aspiring to become doctors, the National Testing Agency (NTA) coordinates their NEET UG Counseling process. The NTA is the authorized body to conduct the NEET UG counseling in the entire nation. NTA is recognized by the Supreme Court of India. 

NTA organizes the counselling process to provide MBBS admission for MBBS colleges, and 250 AIIMS institutes. For MBBS admissions into 600+ medical colleges, 15+ AIIMS, and 2 JIPMER organizations, the National Testing Agency (NTA) manages the application and interview process.

Candidates qualifying for the NEET exam can apply for the counseling process for MBBS admission. Getting MBBS admission in Government colleges is very tough because of the high cutoff score and competition. Whereas getting admission to private colleges is quite expensive. 

Some of the private medical colleges charge huge donations. Students qualifying for the NEET exam with good merit can only get MBBS admission in the best government colleges. 

The National Testing Agency (NTA) strictly assesses candidates’ merit in the NEET exam to determine eligibility for MBBS admission. Once the NEET results are declared, the subsequent enrollment scheme is set up by the counseling team (MCC).

MBBS Admission – Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum aggregate marks in the qualifying examination, often around 50% to 60%, are generally required (relaxation may be provided to reserved category candidates).

Age Limit:

  • The minimum age limit for candidates applying for the MBBS course is typically 17 years old according to the period before admission’s final day of December.

NEET Examination:

The MCC handles counseling for 15% of All India Quota seats, Additionally, there are spots in AFMS, ESIC, and institutions that are thought to be desirable. MBBS Admission in Different States

The state-wise counseling process will be done by State counseling authorities for private colleges. Online or offline counseling will be done by the respective authorities. While applying for MBBS, you need to sign up, choose the courses and colleges you like, and present your documents during the state’s admission process. 

Can You Study MBBS without NEET?

No, you need to pass NEET to study MBBS or BDS in India. NEET is the only way to get enrollment to all universities and dentistry schools in the United States.

Studying MBBS with a Low NEET Score

Candidates who qualified in the NEET Exam with less score can try the following options. 

State Counseling: States have their way of selecting students for 85% of the seats. Sometimes, states have a lower cutoff needed than the All India Quota. So, you might have a better chance if you apply through your state.

Management Quota: Some private colleges keep some seats for students who can pay more. You can apply for these seats even if your NEET score is low. But remember, these seats might be more expensive.

NRI Quota: If you or your family live outside India, some colleges have seats for you. Your NEET score might not need to be as high for these seats.

Candidates need not worry much about their NEET score. Even if the score is low they can try in different ways. Or they can even select the MBBS abroad option to fulfill their ambition.
