What is the NEET Exam?

NEET full form – National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. The annual national enrollment test (NEET) for medical school admissions government and private medical colleges in India. Earlier various entrance examinations were in use to offer MBBS and BDS admissions. 

From 2020, only NEET exam has become the only source for medicine admissions. Admissions to the MBBS programs at AIIMS and JIPMER will also be based on NEET results.

NEET exam replaced many exams due to the One Nation One Examination policy implemented by the Government of India. NEET is a pen-paper-based examination. This is the only UG entrance examination conducted at the national level.

Candidates seeking to get admission in MBBS/BDS courses are required to clear the NEET examination.

Students must have completed class 12 from any recognized college/university/board.

Candidates must have qualified in the Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology/Biotechnology streams with minimum marks of 50%.

Upon clearing the NEET exam with the required qualifying marks, students will get admission into MBBS/ BDS or other medical graduate degree courses.

Who Conducts NEET?

NTA (National Testing Agency) is the authorized body to conduct the NEET examination. The NEET exam is being organized by NTA each year within the direction of the Ministry of Health and Child and Family Welfare’s Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

NTA is conducting and submitting the NEET results to DGHS.

Earlier AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test) exam was in use for medical graduate degree entrance. While the NEET exam replaced AIPMT in 2017.

Why NEET exam is important for Medical Admissions?

Students must clear the NEET exam to get admission in medical courses across India in Government and private medical colleges/institutions.

Students qualifying in the NEET will get admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and numerous other medically relevant courses.

NEET has commenced as a national exam. Students will get entry for several medical undergraduate courses based on the NEET score.

Not only government colleges but private colleges also accept admission based on the NEET score
